Online Blackjack Basic Strategy Trainer

The main advantage of using a basic blackjack strategy trainer is the practice it provides. These trainers are the best aids in preparing for land based casino gambling or real money gambling at an online casino. The trainer will correct mistakes that have been made and will explain why that option was the wrong one.

Hi Everyone,
New to the site here.
Does anyone know if the blackjack strategy game and trainer on the wizard of odds website is programmed different than what it should normally be?
I have been using the trainer for 5 working days now to get used to the basic blackjack strategy and rules. I have not been using any betting system other than what the basic blackjack strategy lies out, and have only been placing $1 opening bets before doubling and splitting. For some reason, every day, I am able to make a profit. I start with a bankroll of $1000 and go up $100 per day. Some days it will take my 6 hours and other days it will take 8, etc. It all depends on my luck.
But my question is, if the house has a 1.5% edge on Blackjack, how do I keep coming up in the positive? Have I had a lucky streak for 5 days straight. Theoretically I should be going down in the negative or at even breaking even. Honestly I assume that you are guaranteed to lose money in blackjack and there really is no way around it other than counting cards. So my thought is, that the program is mainly there to teach users how to use the strategy and not so much rely on the odds of the cards.
Does anyone have any light on this? Thanks for any help you can give.

Hi Ase,
Welcome to the forum.
I would expect that the Wizard's trainer is representative of reality. Short of the industrial level of accuracy and randomness of a true game, but I'm sure it would be negligible difference.
Now, you say that each day you have managed to turn 1000 into 1100. Well, that is absolutely unremarkable. On a low edge game ( And I expect the edge on that game is actually<1% ) you would expect that daily success with about 90% probability ( 1000/1100)

To see such success on 5 straight days, you'd still have a probability of .9^5 = 62% or so. really nothing remarkable there. That's the nature of the game. The house edge does not steadily and relentlessly deplete your bankroll over the short term. You will see lots of winning sessions from time to time. Just like the real game.
It's that variance that makes the game fun to play.
If you are enjoying the game, you're already winning.

Thanks OnceDear, I like your math. I'm actually practicing the basic strategy for when I go to Vegas next week. I will be there for about 6 days and am sure to be gambling for at least 3 of them. I'm bringing $200 bucks to play with strictly for playing adult video games (gambling) and a little bit extra for tipping for free drinks.
I'm pretty certain I can get a few extra laughs in and not lose my money quite as quick as normal when using the basic strategy, and get drinks worth way more than i'm gambling.
Thanks for the help!

Enjoy your trip to Vegas.
If you are a bit new to BlackJack, check out posts by member LostWages, and read through his blog. He was a BlackJack newbie and was given lots of great advice which made his trip the more pleasurable and more profitable.

Two top tips. Shun 6:5 Blackjack which seems to be pushing 3:2 Blackjack off the strip and if playing blackjack always have a backup mini bankroll in case your regular bankroll cannot meet a need to double or split.
If you are enjoying the game, you're already winning.

LCB Blackjack Game Instructions

1.) Select your rule Variations up top. For more information on what each different rule does to the House Edge please visit the Blackjack House Edge Calculator at our sister site Wizard Of Odds.

2.) If you wish to be notified if you are going to make an incorrect play, simply check the, “Warn on Errors,” box.

3.) Select the number of decks you wish to play with, you may select anywhere from 1-8, though most casinos play with either 1, 2, 6 or 8.

4.) Select, “Double after Split,” if you wish to be given the option to Double Down after splitting cards. We recommend finding the rules for the casino that you'll be playing at and playing that way so you learn the proper decisions.

5.) Select, “Surrender,” if you wish to be able to Surrender after the dealer has peeked for Blackjack. Again, we recommend playing with the same rules as you would in your online or brick and mortar casino of choice.

6.) Select whether the dealer hits or stands on Soft 17, to better facilitate improving your game, we again suggest playing under the set of rules of the casino that you might visit.

7.) Select any amount between $1-$1,000 to bet simply by clicking on the chips. If you make the wrong bet, you may hit, “Clear Bet,” otherwise click, “Deal.”

8.) As appropriate, you will be given options for Insurance if the dealer has an ace. HINT: Insurance is ALWAYS the wrong decision unless you're counting cards or hole carding.

9.)After your cards are dealt, you will be given the choice to Surrender, Hit, Stand or Double. When there is a potential for splitting cards, you will also be given the option to split.

10.) You can hit, “Advice,” if you don't know the correct decision. However, if you have, “Warn on Strategy Errors,” on, it will tell you if you're making a mistake.

11.)After completing a hand, you may hit, “New Hand,” “Rebet,” or “Rebet and Deal.”

  • New Hand: You must place a new bet and then deal the cards.
  • Rebet: The original wager from the last hand will be placed automatically, you can then clear it or add to it before the cards are dealt.
  • Rebet and Deal: Your original wager from the previous hand will be made again, and the cards will automatically be dealt out.

About This Game and Frequently Asked Questions:

FAQ's:

Q: I noticed that sometimes the advice offered in this game is not optimal play, particularly in single and double deck, why is that?

A: This game is designed to keep the count of the deck and to offer advice based upon deck-composition strategy according to where the count is at. If you want to reset the deck, then you can do that by refreshing the page.

NOTE: As cards are removed from the deck, the correct decision changes and will often deviate from basic strategy. You'll see this most frequently when playing single or double-deck Blackjack, but even when playing eight decks, there are often changes to strategy decisions based upon the count.

Q: What if I just want to learn Basic Strategy?

A: The first thing that you can do is reload the page anytime you want and that will reset the deck as if no cards had been dealt out. It will also reset your balance.

The second thing that you can do is play using eight decks, while that does change strategy significantly from single-deck strategy, you have to get pretty deep into an eight deck shoe before the count justifies any significant strategy changes.

Finally, you could visit this page and it will tell you the correct Basic Strategy decision for any hand as if the game were not counting.

If you keep the count, then comparing the strategy adjustments our game recommends to regular basic strategy will help you become a much better card counter.

If you just want to play based on Basic Strategy, then you could turn off, “Warn on Errors,” and the game will not tell you if you are making a mistake based upon the count.
